4 NIGERIANs Among TOP 100 BLACK LAWYERS in US

Four Nigerian lawyers in the United States have been named among 2015 top 100 Black Lawyers in the country. The four attorneys, including two females, were honored by The National Black Lawyers- Top 100, an invitation only professional organization comprising top 100 black lawyers and non-blacks who promote diversity and exemplify superior leadership, reputation, influence, and performance in their area of practice.

Also only top lawyers from each state who are actively practicing are eligible for the honor of invitation to the top n100 nationwide. 

The four Nigerians among the top 100 include:

Onome Adejemilua of McCarter & English, LLp based in Newark, New Jersey; Samuel Maduegbuna of Maduegbuna Cooper, LLp in New York, New York; Uchechi Amadi-Ihebuzor of Jones Day in Atlanta, Georgia; and Suleiman Oko-Ogua of Bailey & Wyant PLLC, Charleston, West Virginia.

Onome Adejemilua is an associate in corporate, securities and business transactions group and specializes in general corporate matters including mergers, acquisitions, debt and equity financing for public and private companies.

Samuel Maduegbuna, an experienced trial lawyer is the founding partner of his firm. He has particular expertise in employment discrimination, workplace abuse, personal injury, civil rights and commercial matters.  He has successfully represented clients in high stakes cases against government agencies and corporations often resulting in large settlements for his clients.

Amadi-Ihebuzor's practice focuses on complex litigations, including matters related to product liability claims and contract disputes in federal and state courts.

As an Associate at Bailey & Wyant, Suleiman practices in the area of civil litigation, notably civil rights matters, employment law and insurance issues.  Suleiman has also successfully defended various government agencies and employees in various civil rights and employment against them.

The National Black Lawyers- Top 100is aninvitation-onlyorganization which aims to highlight and elevate the “accomplished black attorney to provide the best way for the public and other attorneys to find theTop Black Attorneysfor their legal needs and source for case referrals.”

The organization notes that the selection for this honor is a multi-phase process which includes peer nominations and third party research.

“Prospective members of The National Black Lawyers-Top 100 are carefully screened prior to receiving an invitation for membership and membership is not automatically renewed; attorneys are reevaluated annually to determine whether their activities and accomplishments qualify them for continued membership.”
